About this scholarship
Utrecht University's Bright Minds Fellowships award approximately 10 fellowships of €5,000 or €10,000 to EU/EEA students (including Dutch students) starting a first Master's programme at Utrecht University on 1 September 2027. The application process opens 1 November 2026 and closes 1 February 2027 at 23:59 CET; selection weighs academic achievement, personal background and diversity, and interpersonal skills, with results aimed for mid-April 2027.
Minimum requirements
Hold an EU/EEA passport (including Dutch); have applied for a Master's programme at Utrecht University starting 1 September 2027; be working towards a first Master's degree; have shown academic achievement in previous studies; bring an element of diversity to the Utrecht University community.
Application checklist
- Confirm you hold an EU/EEA passport (including Dutch), have applied for a Utrecht University Master's programme starting 1 September 2027, and will be working towards your first Master's degree.
- After submitting the Master's application, log in to OSIRIS Online Application, click New application, answer the Bright Minds Fellowship questions and upload the requested document(s).
- Submit well before 1 February 2027 at 23:59 CET — the official page warns that applications submitted between 27 January and 1 February cannot be updated or supplemented if incomplete or incorrect.
- Prepare evidence for the three selection areas: academic achievement (grades and, if available, GRE or GMAT scores), personal background and diversity, and interpersonal skills (extracurricular activities, community service, work experience).
Application tips
- This is the EU/EEA counterpart to Utrecht's NL Scholarship (SCH-DB-416, for non-EEA students) — apply for the fellowship that matches your passport, not both on the same basis; check the official page if unsure.
- The early-submission warning matters: the portal stays open for an extended period precisely so documents can be reviewed and corrected, but that safety net ends on 27 January.
- Only Utrecht University students are eligible — a Master's application elsewhere does not qualify, even within the Netherlands.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
