About this scholarship
KU Leuven's Faculty of Science awards the Science@Leuven Scholarship to motivated, talented international students starting an eligible Master's programme in 2027–2028: an allowance of €12,000 per academic year for up to two years, plus a partial tuition fee waiver for non-EEA students. Applications opened 1 October 2026 and close 15 February 2027; applicants first apply for the Master's programme in the KU Leuven application tool, then register for the scholarship attaching the application-confirmation email. Only admitted students are ranked, mainly on academic results.
Minimum requirements
Bachelor's degree from a non-Belgian university giving access to the eligible Master's programme; must not have previously studied or worked at KU Leuven and must not already hold a Master's degree or a PhD; excellent results comparable to at least Distinction at KU Leuven; very good English (IELTS minimum 7.0 overall with at least 6.5 reading, 6 listening, 6 speaking, 6 writing; or TOEFL iBT minimum 94 with subscore minima stated on the official page); willingness to act as an ambassador for the programme.
Application checklist
- Confirm you hold a bachelor's degree from a non-Belgian university that gives access to one of the eligible KU Leuven Faculty of Science Master's programmes, and that you have not previously studied or worked at KU Leuven and do not already hold a master's degree or PhD.
- Submit a complete Master's application in the KU Leuven application tool, including transcript of records with ECTS sizes and results, a half-to-one-page description of the most relevant prior courses, two letters of reference from internationally renowned professors, and a letter of motivation.
- After submitting the Master's application, register for the Science@Leuven Scholarship and attach the email confirming your Master's application was submitted; keep the scholarship registration confirmation email as proof your registration is complete.
- Check your English score against the official minima (IELTS 7.0 overall with the stated subscores, or the TOEFL minima on the official page) before applying.
- Complete both the Master's application and the scholarship registration by 15 February 2027; note admission by the beginning of April 2027 is required to stay in the scholarship ranking, with interviews in April and awards in early May 2027.
Application tips
- Both steps must be complete by 15 February 2027 — a Master's application alone does not enter you in the scholarship ranking, and a scholarship registration without the confirmation email is incomplete.
- Do not wait for admission before registering for the scholarship: the official page states you may apply as soon as you have applied for a programme, but you will not be considered if it becomes clear you will not be admitted.
- The Geography named scholarship is a separate note on the official page — check the official programme list rather than assuming every Faculty of Science programme is eligible.
- The 2027–2028 non-EEA fee after waiver is not yet decided, so budget on the 2026–2027 figure (€3,252.72) only as a guide, not a promise.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
