About this scholarship
University of British Columbia merit entrance awards for new international undergraduate students: the International Major Entrance Scholarship (CAD $10,000–$25,000 per year, renewable for up to three additional years) and the Outstanding International Student Award (CAD $10,000–$25,000 one-time), both assessed automatically with the admission application. This is the retry of the 0009 Tier C drop W6-12-036, now with the official UBC landing page opened.
Minimum requirements
New international students entering undergraduate programmes at UBC while studying on a Canadian study permit. IMES: entering directly from secondary school, with exceptional academic achievement, intellectual promise and impressive extracurricular and community involvement; renewable for up to three additional years. OIS: new international students entering from secondary school or post-secondary study, with outstanding academic achievement and strong extracurricular involvement; one-time award on admission. Applicants must not be nominated for the need-and-merit-based International Scholars Program (already in the database as SCH-DB-435, a distinct programme). No separate scholarship application; automatic consideration with the admission application.
Application checklist
- Apply to UBC for undergraduate admission by the admissions deadline (15 January 2027 for most programmes)
- Submit all required academic transcripts and English proficiency test scores
- Complete the online portal profile and select campus and programme
- No separate scholarship application is required — IMES and OIS are assessed automatically with admission
- Do not seek nomination for the need-and-merit International Scholars Program if you want IMES/OIS consideration (nominees are excluded from these merit awards)
Application tips
- There is no scholarship form to fill in — your admission application is the scholarship application, so its completeness and timing are everything.
- Do not confuse the 15 November / 1 December 2026 dates with the IMES/OIS deadline: those are the separate International Scholars Program deadlines.
- IMES is for students entering directly from secondary school; OIS also accepts students entering from post-secondary study.
- Scholarship decisions start in February, with offers sent before the admission acceptance deadline (usually 1 May).
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
