About this scholarship
One-off grant of up to AUD $5,000 for preservice teachers nearing completion of their teaching qualification, to help with work, study and home commitments while undertaking their final professional experience placement in a Queensland state school.
Minimum requirements
Completing the final year of an accredited initial teacher education programme; undertaking the final professional experience placement (minimum 15 consecutive days) in a Queensland state school. Final placements in a non-state or private school are not eligible; placements in a kindy or long day care centre that is not a State Delivered Kindergarten are not eligible for this grant (see the Early Childhood Practicum Placement Grant instead). International students who reside in Australia and have permission under Commonwealth law to study in Australia are eligible. Permission-to-teach participants are eligible if the criteria above are met. Recipients must notify the department in writing of any changes to approved placement details. Regional, rural or remote placements may also attract a Regional Professional Experience Grant or Beyond the Range Professional Experience Grant.
Application checklist
- Confirm the placement is the final professional experience placement of at least 15 consecutive days in a Queensland state school
- Obtain placement confirmation from the higher education institution (for example InPlace or Sonia Online)
- Complete the short online questionnaire
- Upload all supporting documents required by the online application
- Notify the department in writing of any change to approved placement details
Application tips
- Apply as soon as the placement is confirmed — payment arrives within 6 weeks of a complete application, so timing matters for placement expenses.
- Check the placement school type first: private or non-state school placements do not qualify, even if the placement is otherwise final-year.
- If the placement is regional, rural or remote, check the additional Regional or Beyond the Range grants at the same time.
- If employed by the department during the placement, remember the grant will be taxed.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
