About this scholarship
One-academic-year residential fellowship in international security at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center, for predoctoral, postdoctoral and advanced research fellows.
Minimum requirements
Predoctoral applicants must be in a doctoral programme, have passed general examinations and show significant dissertation progress; postdoctoral and advanced research applicants must hold or be near a doctorate. Required: CV, unofficial transcript (predoctoral only), 3-5 page research statement, writing sample under 50 pages, and three recommenders.
Application checklist
- Confirm your category: predoctoral (with general exams passed and significant dissertation progress) or postdoctoral/advanced research
- Draft a 3-5 page research statement
- Select a writing sample under 50 pages
- Ask three recommenders early: letters are due 15 December 2026, after the 1 December application close
- Submit the application before 1 December 2026
Application tips
- Predoctoral applicants need significant dissertation progress, not just enrolment, so evidence that progress in the statement.
- Letters fall due two weeks after the application closes; warn your recommenders of the 15 December date now, not in December.
- The writing sample cap is 50 pages: a longer sample must be cut, not submitted whole.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
