Minimum requirements
BSc (Hons) degree (First or Upper Second class or equivalent) or a Masters qualification (Distinction or Merit) in the biomedical sciences, (bio)informatics, physics or chemistry.
Application checklist
- Confirm a BSc (Hons) First or Upper Second class or equivalent, or a Masters with Distinction or Merit, in the biomedical sciences, (bio)informatics, physics or chemistry
- Complete the recruitment form (applications without it are not considered) and prepare a CV
- Email the completed form and CV to BHF.PHD@ed.ac.uk before 8 January 2027
- Submit only ONE application, indicating clearly whether you prefer Edinburgh, Glasgow or have no preference
- Note that no research proposal is required
Application tips
- The recruitment form is mandatory — an application without it is discarded regardless of merit, so attach it before sending.
- State your institution preference explicitly (Edinburgh, Glasgow or no preference) in the single application; do not send two applications.
- No research proposal is required, so invest the effort in the CV and the form rather than a proposal draft.
- International students should budget separately for visa, NHS and relocation costs, which this studentship does not cover.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
