About this scholarship
The U.S. Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) supports doctoral students whose research uses high-performance computing, in the Science & Engineering track or the Math/Computer Science track. The 2027–2028 incoming class (the 37th cohort) applies by 7 January 2027, with transcripts and three reference letters due the same day, and the fellowship starts 1 September 2027. The stipend, tuition and allowance figures in this record are secondary-sourced and must be confirmed on the official programme page.
Minimum requirements
U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; full-time PhD at a U.S. university by fall 2027 (undergraduate seniors, first-year graduate students and students matriculating into a PhD by fall 2027 are eligible); research field in the physical, engineering, computer, mathematical or life sciences with a high-performance computing emphasis.
Application checklist
- Confirm U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence
- Confirm full-time PhD enrolment at a U.S. university by fall 2027 (undergraduate seniors, first-year graduate students and students matriculating into a PhD by fall 2027 are eligible)
- Choose the Science & Engineering track or the Math/Computer Science track
- Secure three references and an official transcript from every university attended
- Prepare a Program of Study with your graduate advisor and submit everything by 7 January 2027
Application tips
- The Program of Study with your graduate advisor is a distinct required document — agree it with your advisor early, not in the final week.
- Transcripts and reference letters share the 7 January deadline, so chase referees and registrars well before the holidays.
- The 12-week DOE laboratory practicum is a core benefit, not an optional extra — mention in your application how you would use it.
- Confirm the stipend and allowance figures on the official programme page before budgeting, since they are secondary-sourced in this record.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
