About this scholarship
Scholarship for citizens of ADB developing member countries to undertake master's study in economics, management, science and technology and other development-related fields at 27 designated institutions in the Asian and Pacific region. The East-West Center / University of Hawaii at Manoa route is the verified example for Fall 2027.
Minimum requirements
Citizens and current residents of ADB developing member countries, not more than 35 years old at application, with a 4-year bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least 2 years of full-time professional work experience after the degree. Applicants living or working outside their home country, applicants who have previously studied abroad outside ADB developing member countries, and applicants seeking a second master's degree are not eligible on the East-West Center route. Scholars are expected to return home after study. The East-West Center accepts applications every other year; the next cycle is August–December 2026 for Fall 2027.
Application checklist
- Apply to the chosen designated institution's ADB-JSP route (for the East-West Center route: East-West Center scholarship application plus a separate University of Hawaii at Manoa admission application)
- Evidence of citizenship and current residence in an ADB developing member country, age not more than 35 at application, and a 4-year bachelor's degree or equivalent
- At least 2 years of full-time professional work experience after the university degree
- English test evidence: TOEFL iBT 79–80, paper-based 550, computer-based 213, Duolingo 95, or IELTS 6.5, taken within the past 2 years (East-West Center route)
Application tips
- Do not use one institution's deadline for another: the East-West Center route closes 1 December 2026, the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Frontier Sciences route closes 10 December 2026, and most September/October 2027 intakes fall between November 2026 and April 2027.
- Check the ineligibility rules before applying: living or working outside the home country, previous study abroad outside ADB developing member countries, and seeking a second master's degree all disqualify on the East-West Center route.
- Apply to the university for admission separately from the scholarship application; winning the scholarship does not replace admission.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
