About this scholarship
DAAD's flagship scheme for experienced graduates from development and newly industrialised countries, funding selected development-related postgraduate courses at state or state-recognised German universities (master's, and in exceptional cases doctoral study). Applicants apply directly to the course, not to DAAD, and may apply to up to 3 courses.
Minimum requirements
Graduates with at least 2 years' professional experience from DAAD-listed development and newly industrialised countries. Only postgraduate courses specifically included in the DAAD EPOS list for 2027/2028 are fundable. Funding duration 12 to 42 months depending on the programme.
Application checklist
- Choose up to 3 eligible EPOS postgraduate courses from the official DAAD 2027/2028 list
- Apply directly to the chosen course or university (applications sent to DAAD are not forwarded)
- Meet the chosen course's own application deadline and document requirements
- Evidence of at least 2 years' professional experience and a degree from an eligible country
Application tips
- Do not search for a single EPOS deadline: every course sets its own, so shortlist courses first and read each course page.
- Note that some 2027/28 course windows have already passed (for example Freiburg Environmental Governance, 15 June–15 October 2026) while others remain open (for example Gottingen Development Economics to 15 November 2026, Heidelberg International Health to 30 November 2026).
- Apply to no more than 3 courses, and treat the course's own deadline as the governing one.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
