About this scholarship
Grants of up to $35,000 for Harvard doctoral candidates researching Korean literature, ordinarily in years G5–G7, with preference for translation-related proposals.
Minimum requirements
Harvard doctoral candidates whose research focus is Korean literature (broadly conceived), ordinarily G5, G6, and G7 students, not the finishing year; a student may not receive this grant more than twice; preference for proposals including some aspect of Korean translation (must be addressed in the statement); main purpose is to support students no longer eligible for GSAS financial aid; award must receive final ICF approval; travel support contingent on Harvard guidelines/safety protocols.
Application checklist
- Email ONE complete PDF to cglover@fas.harvard.edu by the deadline containing: brief cover letter (contact information, names of 2 recommenders, faculty advisor, application elements, Department, G-year, expected graduation year, research proposal title)
- Current CV (state citizenship and whether US Permanent Resident)
- Research proposal/dissertation description max 1,500 words making clear relevance to the fellowship aims and work proposed during the fellowship year
- Current unofficial transcript from my.harvard
- Detailed budget and statement of financial need
- 2 faculty recommendation letters emailed directly from faculty to the Coordinator by the deadline, denoting the specific fellowship
- Inform the Institute if any other award is received for the same proposal after submission
Application tips
- Address Korean translation explicitly in the statement — it carries preference.
- The finishing year is excluded, and the grant may be received at most twice.
- Send exactly one complete PDF plus two direct faculty letters — incomplete files are not considered.
- The award needs final ICF (Seoul) approval after Harvard selection.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
