About this scholarship
Collections-based research fellowships at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens across long-term, short-term and travel-grant tracks.
Minimum requirements
Collections-based humanities research using the Huntington library (over 11 million items, 11th–21st century) and art collections (European/American art over 500 years); continuous residence expected.
Application checklist
- Online application: project description (project and significance ~1,000 words; specific Huntington materials or foreign-archive materials max 350 words; plan of work max 350 words; project output for short-term/travel)
- CV max 3 pages
- Letters of recommendation (1 for short-term/travel, 2 for long-term; tailored, not from a job dossier or Interfolio)
Application tips
- Tailor the recommendation letters — dossier/Interfolio letters are not accepted.
- Long-term applicants need 2 letters, short-term/travel need 1.
- Be specific about Huntington materials (350 words) — the collections case is central.
- Decisions are notified March 2027; Scholars Grove residential complex (33 units) opens Fall 2027 for fellows arriving September 2027 (rental rates/criteria due Spring 2027).
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
