Application checklist

  • Institutional nomination via the Udall faculty representative (only the faculty representative can give access to the online application)
  • 11-question application form
  • 800-word essay on the Udall Foundation's core values
  • Transcripts for all college coursework
  • Three letters of recommendation (leadership, public service, academic achievement)
  • Additional documentation for Tribal public policy and health care applicants and eligible US permanent residents

Application tips

  • You cannot self-apply: contact your campus Udall faculty representative first, and meet your campus deadline (often January-February 2027, well before the national deadline)
  • Choose the category that fits: Environment, Tribal public policy, or Native health care
  • Use the 800-word essay to show leadership, public service and commitment to the category, not just academic record
  • Confirm your campus internal deadline early — e.g. 15 December 2026 (UNH), 24 January 2027 (UW-Madison), 5 February 2027 (Case Western)
