Application checklist

  • Application via SOLAA (window typically opens by December)
  • 1 letter of reference
  • 1-3 writing samples explaining science in a public-friendly way (no more than 10 double-spaced pages in total, at least one written piece), placed in the essay/personal statement section after the personal essay
  • Choose Science Writing and Communications as one of the top three choices

Application tips

  • Lead with what you hope to learn, not just past experience — the programme explicitly rewards learning goals
  • Include at least one written sample; multimedia is optional and must be linked with full URLs, not hyperlinks
  • Do not submit Q&A pieces as writing samples — they show little about your own writing
  • Note the internship can be done on-site or virtually
