About this scholarship
Postdoctoral fellowships from the American Cancer Society supporting mentored research training for new investigators preparing for independent careers in cancer research, for up to three years.
Minimum requirements
Researcher who has recently received a doctoral degree (within the ACS eligibility window — doctoral degree within the past four years per a Harvard listing; confirm the current window on the official ACS page); research in cancer research including basic, preclinical, clinical, cancer control, psychosocial, behavioural, epidemiology, health services or health policy research; one postdoctoral fellowship application per cycle
Application checklist
- Fellowship application via ProposalCentral by 1 December 2026
- Mentored research training plan in an eligible cancer research area
- Institutional verification if the terminal degree is granted after submission (documentation within 3 months of grant activation)
- Eligibility questions to the ACS eligibility office at least 6 weeks before the deadline for extenuating circumstances
Application tips
- Only one postdoctoral fellowship application per applicant per cycle is allowed — do not submit parallel versions.
- If your terminal degree comes after submission, your institution must verify it within 3 months of grant activation.
- Ask eligibility questions at least 6 weeks before the deadline; late extenuating-circumstance queries are not accommodated.
- The stipend rises across the three years ($66,000, then $68,000, then $70,000) plus a $4,000 annual allowance — budget on that progression, not a flat rate.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
